I look up and what do I see???
After three days of riding in virtually a straight line of flat bush I glance in the distance and couldn’t believe it. MORE MOUNTAINS! I was hot, pretty sweaty, but I instantly got revied when I saw the hills ahead of me!
I had to snap a picture of the crossing into Queensland. You can see the flat, brown farmland that I had looked at for the past three days. In the next picture is my future of mountains and the ocean is near!
I had a quick brekkie at a at recommended bakery in Dirranbandi. Y’all, I have fallen in love with the meat pie. They are like chicken pot pies but with beef, lamb, curry, and the works. There is nothing like them. The Dirranbandi Bakery was sooo delicious and of course I didn’t take pictures of it!
After brekkie it was back to the mileage grinding. I had 700 kilometers to go and enough light to get ‘er done. I didn’t stop to take many pictures because the temperature was rising. My gear, the jacket anyway, was perfect for this change in temperature. The pants, not so much! The motorcycle riding gear for plus sized women is horribly limited. I realize that this is a male dominated sport, like everything else, the manufactures cater to the prominent riders. Women’s riding gear is geared to tiny little ladies in very girly colors. I don’t mind the girly colors but jeez, give me something with pockets that are deep enough to hold a phone! Even the women’s riding jeans have micro pockets. End rant here.
As I neared the mountains, the roads started developing a curve to them that I happen to enjoy. It seemed everyone else wasn’t as enthusiastic as I was and chose to take the corners and a drastically slower speed. It was a bit frustrating. I had been riding all day and was finally able to have a little fun when the weekend drivers decided it was their day to drive their antique cars at putt putt speeds. End this rant here..
I arrived at Coolum Beach around 445 and drove to Ken and Carol’s house. Ken and Carol are motorcycle world travelers and it was insisted I meet these people. Ken and Carol are another wealth of information about traveling worldwide. The stories they tell are amazing. I have heard stories of pig toilets, different foods, and cultures. I can’t wait to continue my journeys.
After dinner, wine, and a shower I was off to bed. I had been pushing myself for the past few days to get back to the ocean and I was tired.
The next morning started early and began with coffee and an instructed oil change. Ken wanted to make sure I, a trained motorcycle mechanic, did it right. So helpful…lol. We did a tour around the city via car and then had a nice lunch at the surf club. There are Pokies everywhere and this place was no exception.
I did get to see the water, stick my toes in and pick up a few shells. The water was warmer that what I experienced from the south coast. It was amazing. I even saw humpback whales in the distance breaching the water for a full body splash! They were so pretty! I couldn’t get a photo since they were so far away but my cheapie binoculars worked perfectly so I had ring side seats to some very active whales! I couldn’t wait for the next day, today, to go for a swim!
